      The goal Teaching students about the basic concepts, principles and isses in sociolinguistics. Developing competences necessary for independent research in the field of sociolinguistics.
      The outcome Students possess theoretical, scientific and methodological knowledgde in the field of sociolinguistics and are capable of independent research in this field.
      Contents
      Contents of lectures Linguistics and sociolinguistics. Language, culture, society. Speech community. Language planning, standardization. Multilingual speech communities: language preservation, language loss. Bilingualism. Geographical stratification. Social stratification. Situational stratification.
      Contents of exercises Methodology of sociolinguistic reserach. Ethics in research. Quantitative and qualitative research. Data coding. Data processing and interpretation.
