The goal | Students are expected to gain knowledge of the general features of the language, the functions, system and development of language, as well as the relational connections between the linguistic system and language usage. | |||
The outcome | Students will be equipped with knowledge on the problematics in the field of general linguistics and the common features of linguistic phenomena, as well as on general rules and issues of language use. Students will also develop modes of critical thinking and keenness to observe the advancements in linguistics. | |||

Contents of lectures | General linguistics: terms and role. Notions on language. Structural, biological and pragmatic characteristics. Functions. Language, culture and society. Variants. Language and thought. Linguistic relativism. Language and the mind. The origin of language. Evolutionary linguistics. General questions of semiotics. Language and communication. Language and speech.
