    The goal To give students an overview of the historical, social and literary background of early 19th century Hungarian literature. Lead-in to the systems as periods are linked. Understanding the connections between European and Hungarian spiritual movements, directions in art and literature.
    The outcome Students will get acquainted with early 19th century Hungarian literature. They will be informed on literary relations, contexts and processes; observe and understand the historical background and genres. They will have knowledge on major literary heritage, processes, events and opuses, and gain basic knowledge and experience in research and analysis of concrete examples.
    Contents
    Contents of lectures General influence of literary periods, historical styles and directions. Classicism, sentimentalism, rococo. Lyrical heritage and its revival. György Bessenyei, János Batsányi, Ferenc Kazinczy, József Kármán. Mihály Csokonai Vitéz. Dániel Berzsenyi, Sándor Kisfaludy, József Katona and Ferenc Kölcsey. Károly Kisfaludy. The first half-term of Hungarian novels. The first half-term of Hungarian drama.
