    The goal Historical, poetic and genre analysis of folk literature from the classical point of view, from the aspect of historical anthropology and sociology of culture.
    The outcome Students gain in-depth knowledge in (research) historical, poetic and genre order of the development of (Hungarian) folk literature. Understanding the unity of Hungarian folk literature in correlation with elite culture. Gaining competences in understanding the phenomena of folk literature, as well as in applying them in educational models.
    Contents
    Contents of lectures Folk culture, folk literature and historical anthropology. Archaic folk prayers and their connections to church liturgy. Folk ballads. János Arany’s opus of ballads. The folk aspect of Hungarian literature and “national classicism”. Questions of elite and mass culture. Folk poetry and urban subculture. Short epic prose genres. Folk dramatic plays and professional theatres.
    Contents of exercises Reading pieces of folk poetry and their interpretation. Presentation of individual collections. Assessing students’ seminar papers.
