    The goal A study of trends, types and variants of the 20th - century Hungarian novel. Analysis of the representative works of the genre.
    The outcome The students are introduced to the genres, genre features and discourses in the Hungarian novels, written during the times of various 20th - century paradigms. The students gain deeper understanding of the modernist canon in the Hungarian novel.
    Contents
    Contents of lectures Novel in the period of classical modernism. Avant – garde novel. Poetics of the so-called second wave of modernism. Populist – national trends. Novel and sociography. Referentiality in novel. The parabolic novel in the sixties. Metaphoric language in the novels of the seventies. Negative myths about the creation of the world. The 20th - century family and historical novel. Novel and reminiscence. Postmodern novel. Modern novel discourses.
    Contents of exercises Through texts, the students are introduced to novel writing tradition, the genre variants and thematic circles in Hungarian novel, during different time periods and paradigms of the 20th century.
