      The goal To give an overview of examining language use in communication and cognition, to present the theory of speech act and the theory of pragmatics, the relationship between linguistics and cognitive science as well as the empirical method of research on speech act.
      The outcome Students should recognize that use of language is an act and with the help of language one can do a row of things, that language forms are created according to the intentions of the speaker; Students should also learn different aspects of research results about speech act and to acquire methods of empirical research on speech act.
      Contents
      Contents of lectures The essence of pragmatics, types and topics of pragmatics. The relation between semantics and pragmatics. Pragmatic theory of J. L. Austin and J. Searl. Illocution. Indirect speech acts. Implicature. Theory of interaction of H. P. Grice. New principles and maxims. New results of pragmatics, the role of internationality and knowledge about the world. Cognitive pragmatics.
      Contents of exercises Empirical research on speech act. Interpretation of theories. Analysis of speech texts.
