    The goal Exploring contemporary Germany (recent history, politics, social and educational system, culture, everyday life.) Acquiring competence for successful communication in everyday situations in Germany. Better understanding of foreign and one's own culture, nurturing tolerance, understanding diversity and multiculturalism. Developing the ability to independently explore Germany and nurture intercultural competence.
    The outcome The student possesses general knowledge of contemporary Germany, specific knowledge of specific fields which are studied in depth in practical exercise classes (history, politics, social system, educational system, culture, everyday life) as well as the skills to find and present that knowledge. The student also acquires communication skills necessary for everyday situations in Germany, as well as developed tolerance towards intercultural differences. Not only does the student notice the similarities and differences between his or her own and foreign culture, but also between personal and socially conditioned attitudes.

    Contents of lectures The term 'knowing a foreign country' ('Landeskunde'), approaches and significance within the field of German philology. German history after 1945. Germany today. Geographical features of Germany. Government and social structure, foreign and domestic policy, Germany in Europe. Economy, education and social life of German people. Cultural life: art, cultural centers and events; everyday life of German people, holidays and customs.
    Contents of exercises Further study of certain aspects of contemporary Germany. Discussing critical points in the contact of foreign and one's own culture.
