    The goal The aim of the course is to present the sociological approach to society, including the main sociological theories and method. The second aim is to present the most important characteristics of the sociological way of thinking about society and about social problems, and to point out the limits of common-sense way of thinking.
    The outcome The students are able to understand the most important sociological theories and sociological method, as well as to discuss social problems in way that is above common-sense approach.

    Contents of lectures Sociology between science and imagination – Conflict tradition in sociology – Durkheim tradition – Interpretative sociology – Key sociological dichotomies – Methodology and sociological method – Social institutions – Organizations and bureaucracy – Power and authority – State and politics – Social inequality and stratification – Social mobility and channels of social mobility – Poverty – Culture, subcultures and life styles – Globalization.
    Contents of exercises Presentation of sociological papers and discussion. Seminar papers (supervised).
