The new Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Serbia, His Excellency Mr. Lee Jaewoong visited the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Novi Sad amongst his first official visits.
At the meeting held on 25 January at the Ceremony Hall of the Faculty of Philosophy, Ambassador Lee and Dean Ivana Živančević-Sekeruš discussed the continuation of cooperation in the field of higher education and the establishment of cooperation with Korean universities, and the appointment of new professors from Korea to the Faculty of Philosophy. The Ambassador stated that the cooperation should lay the foundations for better mutual understanding between the two countries and expressed the desire for Novi Sad to become a home for Korean language and culture in the Republic of Serbia and the region.
The Dean reminded us about the numerous cultural events organized within the Korean King Sejong Institute, which has been active at the Faculty of Philosophy for more than three years. The pandemic opened the possibility for Korean to reach a larger number of interested people through our Institute, since both classes and events took place online. Therefore, we were able to have people from the region (Northern Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, etc.) participating at the events organized by the King Sejong Institute.
Ambassador Lee hopes for a better epidemiological situation soon, although the Faculty of Philosophy has found a way to bring Korean culture and language closer to students despite the difficult conditions, since it is very important to have live classes with direct contact.
The plan is to set up and equip a "Korea corner" at the Faculty with a common desire for the University of Novi Sad to become a centre for the Korean language. For now, the activities will continue online, but as soon as the circumstances allow, the plan is to organize exhibitions, concerts, screenings, and lectures.
