      The goal The PhD students have to expand their knowledge in philosophy of mind acquired during their bachelor study by acquainting recent positions debating the mind-body-problem from the analytic and neurophilosophical standpoint.
      The outcome The PhD students are enabled to opt for a well founded thesis and confront it in face of alternative positions on the field of philosophy of mind (dualism, physicalism, behaviorism, identity theory, functionalism, eliminative materialism, connectionism et al.); furhtermore, they are sensitized for the finesse of formal-analytic argumentation but also for the understanding of alternative types of reasoning.
      Contents
      Contents of lectures Discussing the ways of overcoming dualism in the present philosophy of mind. The computer-model of consciousness. The concept of supervenience. Mental causation. The concept of phenomenal consciousness. Neurophilosophichal perspectives on thinking, will and emotion. Philosophy of Psychology. Theories of personal identity. Ethical problems (the problem of free will, causal interpretation of motivation and action etc.).
