    The goal The objective of the course is to demonstrate the changes in the concept of poetry. It provides an insight into the versification of literaryepochs, with special emphasis on metric. It focuses mainly on the rules of Hungarian poetic system, however it often validates comparative perspectives, too.
    The outcome The students’ knowledge of metrics becomesmore profound, and they are able to apply it in practicein poetry analysis. They are also able to pass on their knowledge to their future students in primary and secondary schools.
    Contents
    Contents of lectures Notion of metrics and its fundamental elements. Rhythmic principles and poetic systems. Rhymes and rhyme types. Stanza structures. Hungarian theory of poetry. János Arany and classical modernity. The simultaneous rhythm of Endre Ady's poems. The avant-garde poem. Free verse and prose verse. Sound and visual poems. Postmodern poetry. Palimpsest, a contemporary form of poetic expression.
    Contents of exercises Recognizing poetic systems. Practicing poem interpretation. Applicability of prosody/metrics in primary and secondary education.
