    The goal To introduce students to the lexicology and lexical semantics of Hungarian and to the results of contemporary research in these fields.
    The outcome Students are well-acquainted with the basic terms and concepts in the fields of lexicology and lexical semantics; they have an understanding of theoretical issues and are familiar with contemporary research in Hungarian lexicology and lexical semantics.
    Contents
    Contents of lectures The concept of lexeme. The lexical stock of Hungarian. Lexemes and phrasemes. Lexical stratification. Native words, loan words and foreign words. Approaches in lexical semantics. The interrelatedness of semantic factors. Motivated and unmotivated words. Dictionary meaning and contextual meaning of words. Homonymy. Synonymy. Types of lexical fields and semantic fields. Hyperonymy and hyponymy. Paronymy. Antonymy. Models of semantic change in contemporary Hungarian.
    Contents of exercises Exercises in lexicology and lexical semantics with the aid of dictionaries, electronic corpora and other sources.
