      The goal Teaching students about the basic concepts, principles and issues in applied cognitive linguistics. Developing competences necessary for independent research in the field of applied cognitive linguistics.
      The outcome Students have theoretical, scientific and methodological competences in the field of applied cognitive linguistics and are capable of independent research in this field.
      Contents
      Contents of lectures Basic concepts, principles and issues of cognitive linguistics. Communicative and metaphorical competence in L1 and L2. Cognitive processes in L2 acquisition. Role of world knowledge and encyclopaedic knowledge in L2 acquisition. Conceptual metaphor and vocabulary and grammar acquisition. Conceptual metonymy and its contextual dependence. Role of metonymy in discourse cohesion in L2. Strategies for developing metaphorical competence in L2. Adaptation and design of teaching materials following the principles of applied cognitive linguistics.
      Contents of exercises Methodology of cognitive linguistic and applied cognitive linguistic research. Ethics in research. Quantitative and qualitative research. Data coding. Processing and interpreting data.
