      The goal Students learn about contemporary theory and interpretation of the phenomenon of translation in the 20th and 21st century, conceived in the frame of the so-called cultural turn in the translation studies. The course provides them with key concepts in translation and reception theory in the context of cultural studies and comparative literature.
      The outcome The understanding of the various aspects of translation study and the application of the theoretical knowledge in textual analysis, from the standpoint of poetic and cultural transfer and reception.

      Contents of lectures Translation theory as an academic discipline: essential texts of the 1970s and 1980s (J. S. Holmes, G. Steiner, K. Reiss, H. Vermeer, H. Meschonnic, I. Even-Zohar, G. Toury, A. Berman). The cultural turn (S. Bassnett, A. Lefevere, L. Venuti), sociology of translation, postcolonial translation, translation and gender studies.
      Contents of exercises Analysis of the translation variants of selected texts.
