The goal | Students learn about contemporary theory and interpretation of the phenomenon of translation in the 20th and 21st century, conceived in the frame of the so-called cultural turn in the translation studies. The course provides them with key concepts in translation and reception theory in the context of cultural studies and comparative literature. | |||
The outcome | The understanding of the various aspects of translation study and the application of the theoretical knowledge in textual analysis, from the standpoint of poetic and cultural transfer and reception. | |||

Contents of lectures | Translation theory as an academic discipline: essential texts of the 1970s and 1980s (J. S. Holmes, G. Steiner, K. Reiss, H. Vermeer, H. Meschonnic, I. Even-Zohar, G. Toury, A. Berman). The cultural turn (S. Bassnett, A. Lefevere, L. Venuti), sociology of translation, postcolonial translation, translation and gender studies. | |||
