The goal | Introduction to translation procedures in the translation of official documents. | |||
The outcome | Upon course completion, students will be able to analyse macro- and micro-structural characteristics of common types of official documents, determine the purpose of their translation, choose an adequate translation strategy and translate an official document from English into Serbian. | |||

Contents of lectures | The principles of translation of official documents. Analysis of macro- and micro-structural elements in parallel texts. Types of documents. Types of information. Relevance of information. Official translator as a jurilinguist: translation procedures, legal norms, ethical norms, tradition and customs. Signature and stamp, translation contract, invoice, brief. Translator’s visibility. Standards for translation agencies. | |||
Contents of exercises | Analysis of parallel texts, translation of official documents: diploma, educational certificates, birth certificates and other personal documents and general contracts. Use of terminological resources. | |||
