The goal | The course objective is to help students to: - gain insight into practical aspects of translation as a profession, from job application, work conditions and types of assignments, to translation project workflow and all its phases, from the initial negotiation to the delivery of the finished translation. - gain insight into the characteristics of the roles of project manager, translator, terminologist, reviewer, reviser etc. - apply the acquired knowledge and skills in a professional work environment and - improve relevant aspects of translation competence. | |||
The outcome | Upon completion of the course, students can: - write an adequate CV that is suitable for the current employer, - clearly and appropriately formulate his/her expectations and preferences when working on a translation assignment, - write an offer, a work order, an invoice, - plan his/her work in a project that involves a larger number of collaborators of different profiles, - efficiently organize his work time. | |||

Contents of exercises | Student chooses an area in the field of law, politics, economics and culture in which to do an internship. The internship is done during the fourth semester of studies in an institution or a company which employs translators. The content of the practice depends on the policy of the company where the internship is done, as well as on the type of translation the company needs, and it is stated in an Internship Agreement (IA) between the Faculty of Philosophy and the employer. The IA contains specifications of the type of assignments that a student is to perform, and it is designed by the teacher and the student and accepted by the employer. Upon the completion of a workweek, the student writes a report about all relevant aspects of the internship. Upon the completion of the internship, the student writes a summary report (2000-3000 words) about the things s/he learned, understood, perfected and compiles a portfolio of all the assignments s/he performed together with the employer’s report about the students’ work and efforts during the internship. | |||
